Sailing holiday in northern Spain – Tall ship adventure

Discover the beauty of Spain’s northern coast aboard the majestic tall ship Blue Clipper.

Start your sailing holiday in the maritime city of La Coruña, where history is closely linked to its historic fishing and trading port. Located on a peninsula, the city’s historic centre offers a fascinating network of Romanesque roads with squares and medieval churches. Visit the famous Hercules Tower, one of the oldest lighthouses in the world, and the Museum of Fine Arts, with works by Goya and others.

After exploring La Coruña, the Blue Clipper sets sail south towards the beautiful Galician fjords around Vigo. Sailing is usually during the day, but there may be a possibility for night sailing along the coast. Along the way, you will have the chance to discover breathtaking locations such as Muros, a coastal town with old granite-paved streets, traditional Spanish markets and lively taverns.

The exact stops depend on weather and wind conditions. Explore the beautiful Iles Cíes, located at the mouth of the river Vigo which is now a protected National Park full of bird species. Anchor in the picturesque, sheltered coves and swim in the crystal-clear waters to the vast white-sand beaches. Follow the hiking trails that wind their way among the trees and reach the top of Monte Faro – a fantastic vantage point with spectacular panoramic views.

This sailing adventure is perfect for those who want to experience life aboard a traditional tall ship, combined with a holiday in warmer climates!

A typical day on board:
After a hearty breakfast, the crew starts preparing the sails and discusses the plan for the day with the guest crew. After checking the charts and raising the anchor, the sails are set in search of a scenic anchorage, preferably off the beaten track. From hoisting the sails to steering the ship, you are cordially invited to participate in all sailing activities on board. After a few hours of sailing, the anchor is dropped and guests can explore ashore or just relax on the ship with a book – the choice is yours.

Tip: There is an airport in La Coruna. You can reach it via Geneva (Switzerland) or London.

Frequently asked questions

We still handle your bookings personally and therefore do not have an automatic booking system. This way, we can enable you to reserve individual places for a few days without any obligation. This allows you, for example, to arrange your holiday without someone stealing your place from under your nose. For this reason, we cannot keep track of the exact number of free places on a daily basis. However, we regularly check the availability of our sailing holidays. Therefore, you can generally assume that plenty of free places are still available on all trips that are not marked as ‘fully booked’ or ‘Last Minute’. Call us or use our booking form if you want to know the exact number of places available.

If you are travelling alone and have not booked a private cabin, you will be accommodated in a shared cabin. Shared cabins are normally divided by gender. Only on the Belle Amie and Seatrips Yachts do they sometimes have mixed cabins.

Yes, vegetarians and allergies/intolerances can be catered for on most ships. However, there is only one menu per day on the programme. Therefore, please let us know during your booking if you have any special dietary requirements.

In principle, all our trips are suitable for both experienced and novice sailors. The professional crew on board will teach you everything you need to know. In some cases (e.g. on Atlantic crossings) initial sailing experience may be an advantage/requirement. In this case, this will be clearly indicated in the cruise description.
