From June 21 to 29, 2025, the area around the Kiel Fjord will once again transform into a vibrant hub of maritime and cultural highlights – it’s time for Kieler Woche once more!
This event is truly one of a kind – for nine days, the world’s largest sailing event merges with one of Northern Europe’s biggest open-air summer festivals. The entire city comes alive with celebrations, music, and cultural festivities.
The origins of Kieler Woche date back to 1882, when the event was solely focused on sailing. After World War II, it took on a broader mission: promoting international understanding and contributing to peace and friendship among nations.
One of the absolute highlights is the Windjammer Parade, where around a hundred historic sailing ships – including schooners, brigs, and barques – sail in an impressive formation across the fjord. The parade is often led by the famous Gorch Fock.
You can join the adventure by sailing on an authentic traditional vessel. The crew will take great care of you, while you – just like kings and tsars once did – relax and enjoy the stunning views of the fjord and the majestic ships around you. If you prefer to get hands-on, you’re welcome to help hoist the sails under the guidance of the professional crew.
The voyage takes place on the Elegant, a nearly 40-meter long two-masted clipper from 1889.
Enjoy the perfect combination of adventure, relaxation, and the beauty of traditional sailing. Want to experience the Windjammer Parade from the front row? This is an opportunity you won’t want to miss!
