Step aboard the traditional sailing clipper Pegasus for a special adults-only sailing trip to the Danish South Sea. During six sailing days, you can leave everyday life behind and enjoy hands-on sailing, fresh sea air, small islands and varied harbours across the western Baltic Sea with a group of adult guests.
You board the ship in Kiel-Holtenau on Friday evening. After meeting the crew and your fellow travellers, settling into the cabins and receiving an introduction to life on board, the sailing adventure begins the following morning.
The exact destination depends on the wind and weather. Most likely Pegasus will set course for the Danish South Sea, where numerous islands and small harbours offer plenty of opportunities for an varied island-hopping voyage. Alternatively, the route may follow the German Baltic coast or combine both sailing areas.
Island hopping in the Danish South Sea
The Danish South Sea is a varied sailing area with small islands, sheltered waters and welcoming harbour towns. The distances between many of the islands are relatively short, making the area particularly suitable for a sailing trip with several possible stops. Depending on the route and conditions, longer sailing days are also possible.
Possible destinations include Marstal or Ærøskøbing on Ærø, the tiny island of Lyø and other harbours in the South Funen Archipelago. The captain decides which islands and ports can actually be visited based on the wind, weather and wishes of the guestcrew.
A sailing trip from Kiel also offers several possibilities along the German Baltic coast. This allows the itinerary to be adjusted along the way to make the most of the safest and most enjoyable sailing conditions.
More route options thanks to the shallow draught
One of the special advantages of Pegasus is her shallow draught of approximately 1.20 metres. As a traditional flat-bottomed vessel, she can enter shallow waters and smaller harbours that are inaccessible to many larger sailing ships.
This gives the captain a particularly wide choice of islands, anchorages and harbour towns. It creates greater freedom when planning the route and may make it possible to visit less obvious destinations.
The places mentioned are therefore examples rather than a fixed itinerary. Safety on board and the prevailing weather conditions always determine the actual route.
Take an active part in sailing Pegasus
During this Danish South Sea sailing trip, you are not simply a passenger. After a safety and sailing briefing, you can help the crew hoist the sails, handle the lines, assist during manoeuvres and spend some time at the helm under supervision.
No previous sailing experience is required. The crew explains the tasks clearly and shows you how to take part safely. You can largely decide how actively you would like to participate, although interest and a willingness to lend a hand are warmly encouraged.
The sails of the historic Pegasus are still hoisted by hand. This allows you to experience traditional sailing at close quarters and become part of the activity on deck.
Between sailing activities, there is plenty of time to relax, enjoy the views or sit on deck with the other guests.
Cooking and living together on board
Shared life on board is another important part of the experience. The guests prepare the meals together in small groups. Cooking and eating together often create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere from the very beginning.
The spacious galley is equipped with a large gas cooker, oven, refrigerator, freezer and a wide range of cooking utensils. Together, you prepare the meals and help with clearing up and washing the dishes afterwards.
After a day of sailing, there may be time to explore the harbour, go for a walk or enjoy the evening together on board. The combination of hands-on sailing, shared cooking and relaxed time together makes this a complete sailing experience.
A sailing trip exclusively for adults
This voyage is deliberately offered as an adults-only sailing trip. It is aimed at adults who appreciate hands-on sailing, cooking together and a sociable but relaxed atmosphere on board.
With only adult guests taking part, the group can settle into a calm and shared rhythm. This does not mean that the atmosphere is quiet or formal: enjoyment, meeting new people and sharing new experiences are central to the voyage.
Whether you travel alone, as a couple or with friends, it is easy to meet other people on board who share an interest in the sea, traditional ships and unusual sailing adventures.
Who is this sailing trip suitable for?
This adults-only sailing trip is a good match for you if you:
