The Zuiderzee is an original two-masted schooner with a rich history dating back to her launch in 1909. Originally built as a freighter, she sailed the world’s seas loaded with up to 400 tonnes of cargo. It was not until 1921 that her first engine was installed, and since the 1970s she has sailed the Baltic as a charter ship.
After a thorough renovation in the early 1990s, the Zuiderzee features a spacious saloon, a well-equipped galley with oven and spacious 2- and 3-bed cabins. These cabins are equipped with central heating, private washing facilities, cabinets and reading lights. Three showers and three toilets are available for guests, strategically located near the front and aft cabins.
The galley is connected to the dayroom and has a tap system, which ensures sufficient fluid intake. There is also ample storage and refrigeration space for food and non-alcoholic drinks. A portable barbecue makes grilling evenings ashore possible and the well-stocked games and bookcase provides entertainment for young and old.
On deck, the Zuiderzee offers plenty of space, which can be used for both active sailing and relaxation. The classic teak deck is ideal for relaxing and sunbathing. And on balmy summer nights, guests often sleep in their sleeping bags under the stars.
The crew, led by the captain, warmly welcomes adventurous co-sailors on board. They are always ready to answer questions, teach you the basics of sailing on a traditional schooner and are happy to let you take the helm. The Zuiderzee offers a unique experience at sea, whether you are looking for adventure, relaxation or a combination of both.
