Timelessly elegantly built in the style of the ‘Baltimore Clipper’, the SIR ROBERT BADEN POWELL offers an exclusive sailing holiday for sailors and non-sailors alike.
The hull of the Sir Robert dates back to 1957/58, when the tugboat and icebreaker “Robert” was built at the VEB Edgar Andre shipyard in Magdeburg, former East Germany. The “Robert” was part of a series of ships intended for export to the “socialist brotherhood states” and countries in the Third World. After the fall of the Eastern Bloc, the ship was decommissioned in 1989 and put up for sale. In 1992/93, it underwent a major conversion in Lemmer into a topsail schooner, inspired by the Baltimore Clipper design, and was extensively adapted into a modern sailing passenger vessel.
Sailing trips aboard the SIR ROBERT BADEN POWELL along the most beautiful coasts of the western Mediterranean are more intense and long-lasting than any holiday on land. The fine cuisine, comfort and personal service of the attentive crew are part of the sailing experience.
The relaxed sailing trips are suitable for guests of all ages. Individuals, couples, mini-groups, no one needs sailing experience, good mood and fun on board are enough.
Team-building events, incentives, weddings, birthdays and other anniversaries are also possible on the sailing ship as a full charter. The Sir Robert is also perfect for family trips. Thanks to the safe bulwark on deck, the ship offers optimal protection, even for little ones.
An open-air vacation paradise, whether you want to relax, chat, meditate or dine: aboard the Sir Robert, everyone will find their favorite spot. A large sundeck on the deckhouse or jib net invite relaxed sunbathing. A popular meeting place for cocktail, lunch and chat rounds is the atmospheric aft deck under shady awnings and the middle deck. Even below deck, the spaces aboard the Sir Robert are generous and cozy.
The cabins:
The Sir Robert is an exclusive sailing vessel featuring six passenger cabins, which means plenty of space for a small number of guests— the complete opposite of mass tourism. Each cabin comes with its own private toilet and shower. In addition to a double bed, five of the six cabins also have an extra single bed. All cabins are equipped with round portholes or hatches that can be opened independently from the inside. During warm summer cruises, air conditioning is available, and there is occasionally the option to sleep on deck. Electrical outlets follow the European standard.
The saloon:
The salon of the Sir Robert is located in the middle of the ship and feels like a spacious lounge. Here, all guests can gather comfortably for breakfast and lunch. The salon also houses a shipboard library, which continues the old-fashioned tradition of collecting books from and for guests—even in the age of e-books.
Food & board restaurant
From morning coffee to evening cocktails, the ship’s chef tailors every flavor to the weather, the region, and your personal preferences. What sets the onboard dining apart? Thoughtfully balanced culinary delights, lovingly prepared and served outdoors. Each meal tells a story and features a special blend of herbs. The day starts hearty and flavorful with fresh, delicious organic bread and international treats. The three-course dinner in the evening perfectly rounds off the day’s culinary experiences—sometimes lavish, sometimes light, sometimes robust, and often inspired by local flavors, but always delicious.

Maritime Activities
Swimming and bathing
In crystal-clear water, swimming is always possible directly from the ship, once the large staircase on the starboard side is lowered by the crew.
SUP (Stand-Up Paddling)
Stand-up paddling is increasingly enjoyed by guests. After a brief introduction from the crew, you can start right away—have fun!
Snorkelling
An ABC snorkelling kit is available to every guest – for a small fee – and if required, you will be accompanied by an experienced crew member.
Diving
As an SSI dive base, diving is a popular activity on board. Guests have the opportunity to join dive trips in various waters with an experienced dive instructor. Try dives, diving courses, and occasionally night dives are also available. The days are scheduled so that diving and other activities do not interfere with each other, ensuring everyone can fully enjoy their experience. On board, there are two compressors, dive tanks, weights, and high-quality Mares equipment in all standard sizes—combined with extensive experience and expert guidance. Please note that diving is not available on every trip. If you’re interested, check with us about the possibilities.
Dinghy Shuttle
With the 5.40-meter-long dinghy, the crew can spontaneously transport the small group of guests at any time to the beach, village, harbor, or a nearby bay.
