Two-masted clipper built in 1893
The vessel
The Bonnefooi is a two-masted clipper built in 1893. She has been part of the traditional Dutch sailing fleet for many years. After several refits, redesigns, and changes of ownership, she has been fully adapted to modern times. On deck, there is plenty of space to relax while sailing or when moored in the harbor.
The Bonnefooi is a sporty sailing ship with many extra options, including various additional sails. The crew encourages everyone to lend a hand on deck during sailing — the best way to fully experience life under sail!
Paul and Anna are the captains of the Bonnefooi and true lovers of life. They would love to take you along to enjoy the wind, the water, and the experience of sailing — as well as the charming towns and beautiful Zeeland surroundings.
Discover the natural rhythm of life on board, experience the calm and steady pace of sailing, and take in the wide-open landscapes of Zeeland from the water.
The sailing area
The Bonnefooi sails through the beautiful waters of Zeeland. From the historic harbor town of Zierikzee, you sail straight onto the Oosterschelde. This tidal estuary consists of salt water, which also makes it possible to let the Bonnefooi rest on the seabed at low tide.
The fresh and brackish waters of the Grevelingenmeer and Veerse Meer are also within sailing distance — smaller lakes where, besides sailing, you can enjoy a refreshing swim.
While sailing, you can enjoy the rich biodiversity that still exists in the Netherlands today. The waters and surrounding shores are home to seals, porpoises, shrimp, plankton, sandpipers, shellfish, and many other plants and animals.
We love sharing what we ourselves find so beautiful and valuable about the natural world around us. And you can even taste it! Zeeland is full of delicious local produce and edible treasures from land and sea. We believe that experiencing nature with as many senses as possible — and sharing that appreciation with others — is the first step toward protecting this unique ecosystem.
On board
The Bonnefooi is a wonderful sailing ship. Outside, you can relax in the cockpit while sailing or enjoy the view from the aft deck.
Inside, the Bonnefooi is just as warm and comfortable. You enter the ship midships, where you’ll find the main living area with tables, seating, the onboard library, and the galley — the ship’s kitchen. Surrounding this space are the cabins, the sleeping quarters of the ship.
There are five double cabins and two spacious four-person cabins. Each cabin is equipped with heating, a private washbasin, and a power outlet. Toward the front of the ship, there are two shared bathrooms with showers, toilets, and a urinal.
Plenty of space to enjoy sailing with a group, organize a company outing, or join one of the sailing trips on board.
The Bonnefooi also stands for sustainability. Traveling by sail is the oldest way of harnessing the power of the wind. But sustainability on board goes beyond sailing alone.
During your holiday, you want to relax, enjoy yourself, and leave your worries behind — while still making conscious choices. On the Bonnefooi, we bring those two worlds together.
Flexible packages and customized experiences on board
The Bonnefooi offers a wide range of optional experiences to make your sailing holiday truly unique and fully tailored to your wishes. Besides sailing, you can choose from various themed trips and special arrangements.
In summer, for example, you can join a wonderful day trip across the Grevelingenmeer, while two dedicated weeks are reserved for yoga retreats. July is all about “slow traveling” — the theme of the month, featuring leisurely ferry voyages between Rotterdam and Antwerp.
In September, we celebrate life with a true bacchanal: a weekend sailing trip for those who want to enjoy the good Burgundian lifestyle together with us.
An active company outing with a team-building program is also one of the possibilities.
In addition, you can make use of extensive catering options tailored to your wishes. Paul, the captain and owner, is a trained chef and knows better than anyone what good food should taste like.
The catering on board is vegetarian by default, and we use as many organic, local, and seasonal products as possible. Of course, we are also happy to serve fish or meat options for an additional charge, allowing us to source the very best ingredients for you.
