The Albin Köbis was built in 1948 as a sailing fishing cutter for the Baltic Sea. Where herring, cod and mackerel were once successfully caught, lifelong memories are now made. For more than forty years, she has taken guest crews to picturesque harbour towns, unspoilt islands and through the breathtaking scenery of the Baltic coast.
The wooden vessel has been lovingly maintained with exceptional craftsmanship for decades. You don’t just see it—you feel it. Every plank, every rope and every sail tells its own story.
A ship with a remarkable history
The Albin Köbis was originally built under the name Karl Krull as the first of a series of twelve wooden fishing cutters. For many years she worked as a fishing vessel on the Baltic Sea until the wooden fleet gradually gave way to larger steel ships.
Fortunately, she escaped the scrapyard. Dedicated volunteers from the Sozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterjugend gave her a second life. With great passion and craftsmanship, she was lovingly rebuilt into a traditional sailing vessel for passengers, a project completed in 1985. Since then, she has proudly carried the name Albin Köbis and once again sails where she was originally meant to be—out at sea.
The Albin Köbis was named after the German engine-room sailor Albin Köbis, who became known for his resistance aboard a German warship during the First World War against the militaristic regime of the German Empire
