The Cherokee is a modern classic guaranteed to attract attention in any harbour with her light blue hull. This handy yacht is not only pleasing to the eye, but also easy to sail. Eight passengers and two crew members (skipper and mate) can be taken on board. For longer crossings, additional crew is called in, reducing the maximum number of passengers to four.
The yacht was built in 2000 and designed by J&J Design, known for the iconic ‘Grand Soleil’ sailing yachts. In 2009, the Cherokee underwent an extensive refurbishment, optimising the sailing characteristics for a better experience at sea, and updating the interior for greater comfort and practical layout. The vessel is now equipped with a cutter rig and a generator. At 16.5 metres long, the Cherokee features a beautiful teak deck, spacious gangways and a cockpit with comfortable seating for everyone on board.
The interior of the Cherokee is atmospheric and practically panelled with mahogany wood. The spacious saloon features a cozy seating area, while the well-equipped galley includes, among other things, a refrigerator, freezer, electric hob, and a combination oven with microwave. Each cabin has storage cupboards for luggage and windows that can be opened for fresh air. All cabins are equipped with a natural ventilation system, while the toilets have mechanical ventilation (with a timer). The boiler has been expanded to 90 liters, and the generator’s cooling runs through it, ensuring enough hot water, even at anchor, for a delightful shower.
The cockpit is spacious and offers comfortable sofas and a table. In case of cooling or rain, a cockpit tent can be quickly set up, so you can still enjoy the view (covered).
Host and owner Jouke Lemmers comes from a family of seafarers and has now travelled no less than 54,000 nautical miles with the Cherokee. Sailing, exploring unknown coastlines and braving challenging conditions are his greatest passions. Jouke strives to sail as much as possible with as little use of the engines as possible, and appreciates the beauty of nature and a good atmosphere on board. The Cherokee’s average engine hours are only 180 per year (including manoeuvring during the annual 3,000 nautical miles), which is due to the ship’s excellent sailing characteristics and ability to predict the weather, allowing ports to be reached under sail as much as possible.
