A short sailing trip at the end of the season, for both experienced sailing enthusiasts and those who want to become one! During this trip, the Albert Johannes will participate with you in the popular Tiessen-Race. This regatta for traditional sailing ships takes place on the Baltic Sea from Kiel. The final destination of the regatta depends on the weather and will only be announced on arrival. Sometimes it is beautiful Kappeln on the Schlei, sometimes Marstal on the Danish island of Ærø, or Sønderborg…. Let yourself be surprised!

On Friday evening, you board the boat in Kiel. Over a snack and a beer, the strategy for the regatta is discussed. Saturday morning around 11 am the race starts. In the evening, the prizes will be awarded and we will end the day with a nice party night to celebrate the winners. On Sunday, we sail back to Kiel, arriving in the afternoon.

During the trip, guests have the opportunity to actively help with all the activities on a traditional sailing ship – from hoisting the sails to performing manoeuvres and even lending a hand in the galley. This way, you quickly feel connected to the ship, the crew and the other sailors. Sailing experience is not necessary.

Meals are provided collectively on board. The crew of the Albert Johannes provides breakfast, lunch and a hot evening meal daily. Guests are asked to take turns helping with the cooking (such as cutting vegetables, washing up, setting the table and so on). This always works very well in practice and is also an excellent way to get to know each other better.

Frequently asked questions

We still handle your bookings personally and therefore do not have an automatic booking system. This way, we can enable you to reserve individual places for a few days without any obligation. This allows you, for example, to arrange your holiday without someone stealing your place from under your nose. For this reason, we cannot keep track of the exact number of free places on a daily basis. However, we regularly check the availability of our sailing holidays. Therefore, you can generally assume that plenty of free places are still available on all trips that are not marked as ‘fully booked’ or ‘Last Minute’. Call us or use our booking form if you want to know the exact number of places available.

If you are travelling alone and have not booked a private cabin, you will be accommodated in a shared cabin. Shared cabins are normally divided by gender. Only on the Belle Amie and Seatrips Yachts do they sometimes have mixed cabins.

Yes, vegetarians and allergies/intolerances can be catered for on most ships. However, there is only one menu per day on the programme. Therefore, please let us know during your booking if you have any special dietary requirements.

In principle, all our trips are suitable for both experienced and novice sailors. The professional crew on board will teach you everything you need to know. In some cases (e.g. on Atlantic crossings) initial sailing experience may be an advantage/requirement. In this case, this will be clearly indicated in the cruise description.
