Come aboard the Florette in Sliema, a lively coastal town on Malta’s east coast, across the harbour from the capital Valletta. Sliema is known for its beautiful coastline, long boulevards and vibrant atmosphere. With a mix of modern amenities, charming cafés and historic architecture, it’s a place definitely worth exploring before boarding.
After your first evening on board, during which you will get to know the crew and other guests, dinner is scheduled before setting sails for the first time the next morning. Depending on the wind and weather, the Florette may spend a few days on the islands of Comino and Gozo before crossing to the coast of Sicily. Captain Ron will keep an eye on the weather to make the crossing to Sicily at the right time.
The small island of Comino is famous for its Blue Lagoon, a paradise for snorkellers and divers. The relaxed island of Gozo is about three hours’ boat sailing from Comino. The island has been inhabited for thousands of years and has traces of habitation by the Romans, Arabs, Sicilians, French and British. Gozo is also known for its Neolithic Ġgantija temple ruins, which are older than the Egyptian pyramids.
The crossing to the coast of Sicily can take 7-10 hours and offers a great opportunity to experience sailing on open water. We may also sail overnight on this trip.
Sicily’s coast is dotted with beautiful old port towns. From the lively coastal town of Syracuse to the upper town of Taormina, where a Greek theatre overlooks the waterfront, there are plenty of places to moor the Florette. The impressive Mount Etna dominates the coastline here, providing a spectacular backdrop.
The Florette will then sail north through the Strait of Messina to reach her final destination, Vibo Marina on the Italian mainland.
