Italian sailing adventure in the spring
Join an Italian sailing adventure in the spring, from Sardinia to Calabria, aboard the traditional tall ship Florette. Before the summer crowds arrive, experience the Italian coast at its best: peaceful harbors, pleasant temperatures, and plenty of space to explore, both at sea and onshore.
From Sardinia to the Pontine Islands
This two-week journey takes you through the legendary waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, where nature, history, and the sailing experience come together. From Olbia and the Gulf of Aranci in Sardinia, the Florette sets course eastward toward the Italian mainland.
The first leg takes you to the Pontine Islands, known for their volcanic origins, quiet anchorages, and their role as centuries-old stopovers for Mediterranean traders.
The Gulf of Naples, Capri, and the Amalfi Coast
Next, you sail into the impressive Gulf of Naples, where Roman history, maritime traditions, and volcanic forces converge under the watchful eye of Mount Vesuvius. Along Capri, a spectacular landscape unfolds that has attracted travelers for centuries. You’ll have time to go ashore or stay on the water with paddleboards and snorkeling equipment.
Next comes one of the absolute highlights of the journey: the Amalfi Coast, where steep limestone cliffs dramatically drop into the sea and colorful villages bear witness to a rich maritime history.
The final leg heads south to Calabria, with disembarkation in Vibo Marina, a coastal town with deep maritime roots.
Spring sailing in the Tyrrhenian Sea
In May, the Tyrrhenian Sea typically experiences moderate west to southwest winds, with stable weather and pleasant temperatures. These conditions make spring ideal for longer sailing trips as well as relaxed onshore exploration, without the crowds and heat of summer.
Life on board the Florette
Life on board the Florette revolves around a unique combination of traditional sailing, nature experiences, and Italian culture. Guests are actively involved in classic sailing: with her original rigging, the Florette is truly an “all hands on deck” ship, making the adventure extra special. Sailing here is not a spectator activity, but a shared experience.
Beyond sailing, there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy the sea and coastline. Guests can make use of sea kayaks, SUP boards, and snorkeling equipment, and fishing gear is even available to catch fresh fish for dinner.
Although the route is planned to pass Sardinia, the Pontine Islands, Naples, Capri, the Amalfi Coast, and Calabria, the captain ultimately decides on the exact anchorages and sailing times.
Meals on board
Breakfast is served on board every day. In addition, 12 meals are included, consisting of lunches and/or dinners. The ship’s chef, Nicole, cooks with fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients, preparing healthy and flavorful Mediterranean dishes. The remaining meals usually take place onshore, allowing you to fully explore the local Italian cuisine. If going ashore is not possible, additional meals can be provided on board for a reasonable fee.
A sailing voyage full of character
This trip is sailing at its best: a combination of offshore passages, Mediterranean landscapes, and the unique heritage of the Florette, the last active brigantine of its kind still sailing in the Mediterranean.
The days consist of sailing, with plenty of time ashore to experience Italian culture. Night watches are unlikely on this trip, allowing you to fully enjoy the adventure.
