From Torqauy, we sail south along the Devon coast to Darthmouth. A beautiful picturesque estuary. We will then cross to the Channel Islands, a distance of 66 miles, so that means we will arrive in the night, probably on the island of Alderney.
The next destination depends on the wind and the tide, but it will probably be St Peter port on the island of Guernsey. Here we will then stay for a day for, for example, a nice walk, for the enthusiast a dip in a natural pool by the sea and/or to explore the quaint town.
We also try to visit the small but beautiful island of Sark. Here we will anchor and take the dinghy ashore for a very nice walk.
The decline (difference between low and high tide) is huge here. This is one of the charms of boating in this area, strong tidal currents and a large decline of up to 9 metres with spring tides. ‘Not for the faint hearted’ as the British nicely put it. Due to the large tidal range (decline), the landscape changes constantly and, with the many unusual rock formations, it is a beautiful sight. The tide also determines our ports; Carteret in Normandy is a nice option, but the entrance falls completely dry at low tide so we have to calculate this carefully.
A special cruising area with the typical cosy British atmosphere and also beautiful nature. The tide is the clock here and we will have to sail with current and also count when we can enter and leave the harbours. After or before sailing, there is also time to stroll along the coast or in the cosy little harbours. This sailing holiday is a nice mix between French and British culture, with tasty croissants at breakfast and cosy pubs in the evening. Plus, relaxed sailing along beautiful scenery with spectacular tides and also time for sightseeing.
We end this special sailing holiday on the island of Jersey, where we end the sailing trip at one of the best pizzerias in the world.
Daily distances vary between 7 and 66 miles. The above schedule depends on weather, wind and tide, we will deviate from it if necessary.
Category A/C: Combination of a crossing that includes night sailing with also shorter day distances and time for sightseeing.
