From Belfast, we sail out to the Irish Sea and stop at the luxurious marina Bangor. A short distance, therefore in the morning there is still the possibility to take a ‘Black Cab’ city tour along the impressive ‘Murals’ (wall paintings) , or to visit the Titanic museum, definitely recommended. This is followed by a longer leg to the ‘Isle of Man’, in the middle of the Irish Sea. The next day, we stay moored to explore the island or visit the quaint town of Peel, its beach and/or castle.
The next day, wind and tide permitting, we sail into Strangford Lough, which has a very strong current so weather conditions have to cooperate. This is where the filming for the famous ‘Game of Thrones’ series took place, especially the one in front of ‘Winterfell’ castle, and here you can also take a nice woodland walk.
We sail on the following day to Carlingford Lough, another impressive fjord with strong currents, right on the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland. With stunning views of the Mourne mountains and Carlingford is an authentic town.
The Irish are the most friendly and hospitable people in Europe and the cosy pubs are a nice end to the sailing day. We sail on to Malahide, a longer 39-mile sailing day, where we can enter via a shallow river with the right tide, right along the beach. A pretty town and a bit of Dublin’s seaside resort, where we will probably stay for another day.
We end this sailing holiday in vibrant and atmospheric Dublin, where, of course, in the evening we will walk into the city centre to eat in a pub and listen to traditional Irish music.
Day distances are between 11 and 45 nautical miles. The above schedule depends on weather, wind and tide, we will deviate from it if necessary.
Category B/C/F: Sailing holiday with both longer sailing days and also shorter day distances and plenty of time for sightseeing. This sailing holiday is also suitable for children.
