The trip starts in Grenada, where you will be warmly welcomed by the crew of the Twister. You will get acquainted with the ship and the other embarkees and can settle into your cabin. During the first evening, you will receive safety instructions, get to know the crew, discuss the itinerary and toast to a great 10 days!
The captain is very familiar with the area and knows where the most beautiful islands with idyllic bays are to anchor in, from where we explore the islands and view coral reefs.
Most people rightly associate the Caribbean islands with white sandy beaches, palm trees and blue sea. But did you know that many islands are volcanic? Beautiful tropical rainforests and mystical cloud forests grow on the steep slopes. The dormant active volcano warms up mountain streams that wind through the forest and flow into beautiful waterfalls.
On this trip, we sail at a ‘cruise’ pace. This means we sail fewer miles per day, leaving time to see things, disembark for swimming and snorkelling. There is always a nice breeze in the Caribbean, together with the pleasant temperature, making it a unique place to sail.
From Grenada, we can sail north. First we will then encounter the Tobago Cays and Grenadines: an unlikely collection of 100 inhabited and uninhabited islets. This is one of the best sailing areas in the world and we have extensive time to explore it, with a beautiful ship at our disposal and a crew that knows the best spots. But during these trips, passengers are also allowed to contribute ideas, so if there are places on this itinerary that you definitely want to visit, let us know and we will visit them, if possible!
We will not skip the famous horseshoe-shaped reef before sailing to Saint Vincent. Saint Vincent is a volcanic island. The La Soufriere volcano is still active and occasionally spews out some ash. Also special is the small island in the flooded crater.
Fertile volcanic soil grows bananas and high-quality cotton, among other things. Mass tourism has largely passed this island by while its volcanic landscape, rainforests with waterfalls and sandy beaches are well worth seeing.
A few hours away lies Saint Lucia. The Caribbean Indians called it ‘Land of the Iguanas’. The island is relatively densely populated and known for its delicious fruits such as papaya, mango, passion fruit and banana. Saint Lucia is recognisable from afar by its two cone-shaped mountains. If you sail into one of the bays here on a Friday, chances are you can join one of the traditional ‘Friday Night Parties’. This is when rum and barbecues are brought out and calypso or reggae music can be heard.
After another wonderful last evening on board, we will drop you off back in Grenada on 21 December where you can continue your journey on your own.
