Escape to the sun on an unforgettable sailing holiday around the Canary Islands
While the Netherlands struggles with cold, rain, and gray skies, we board in the sunny south of Tenerife. Here your dream sailing holiday begins, sheltered by the island and surrounded by the azure Atlantic Ocean. Right from departure, there’s a good chance of seeing whales and dolphins swimming by—a magical start to a week full of adventure. Thanks to the steady northeast trade winds, perfect temperatures between 22 and 27 °C, and clear blue skies, sailing conditions here are almost always ideal. Between the islands, the Venturi effect creates spectacular winds and an unforgettable ocean sailing experience.
Historic charm and natural beauty
Our first stop: San Sebastián de La Gomera. This charming town is steeped in history—Columbus set sail for the New World from here in 1492. Explore the green, mountainous landscapes and escape the crowds of mass tourism. Walk up for panoramic views or enjoy authentic tapas in the village.
Depending on the wind, we head to La Palma, “La Isla Bonita.” This green paradise enchants with deep ravines, volcanic landscapes, and forests among the most beautiful in Spain. In the colorful Santa Cruz de La Palma, you can admire colonial buildings and traditional wooden balconies. A minibus island tour takes you to highlights such as the astronomical observatory above the clouds and the natural seawater pools of Charco Azul.
Next, we sail to Valle Gran Rey on the west coast of La Gomera. This picturesque harbor town, nestled beneath an impressive red-hued cliff, invites you to take leisurely strolls through narrow streets filled with cozy bars. Enjoy an unforgettable sunset and the relaxed hippie atmosphere that makes this place so unique.
Untouched islands and breathtaking nature
When the wind is favorable, we make an breathtaking crossing to El Hierro, the smallest and most unspoiled island of the Canary archipelago—a personal favorite of our skipper. Here, you’ll experience total tranquility, spectacular nature, and hardly any tourists. By minibus, we explore highlights such as the Mirador de La Peña viewpoint by artist César Manrique, mysterious laurel forests, and dramatic cliffs rising straight from the ocean.
We return to Tenerife along the south coast of La Gomera. Along the way, a pod of dolphins may accompany us. The journey ends at a cozy Spanish restaurant, where we toast together to an unforgettable week full of sun, wind, and remarkable discoveries.
Daily distances: 18–54 nautical miles. The itinerary depends on weather, wind, and tides; where necessary, we adjust it flexibly to ensure the experience is always optimal.
Category C: Relaxed sailing holiday with shorter daily distances and plenty of time for sightseeing. This Canary Islands sailing trip is ideal for adventurous travelers who want to enjoy the freedom of sailing while discovering authentic islands full of natural beauty.
