The trip starts in Belém, where you will be warmly welcomed by the crew of the Twister. You will get to know the ship and the other embarkees and settle into your cabin. During the first evening, you will receive safety instructions, get to know the crew, discuss the itinerary and toast to a great 14 days!
The captain knows the area well and knows where the best spots are to anchor and get to know the country better. After leaving Belém, the first thing we will encounter is Devil’s Island, or Île du Diable in French Guiana. These islands are known from the book and films based on it, Papillon. There used to be a penal colony here, the remains of which can now be found overgrown by jungle.
After this, we set sail towards the beating heart of Suriname: Paramaribo. Here we enjoy the good life: Parbo beer, nice atmosphere, chat, why bother? To see the tropical rainforest? Oh well, maybe we can do that tomorrow too.
This is one of the best sailing areas in the world and we have extensive time to explore it, with a beautiful ship at our disposal and a crew that knows the best spots. But during these trips, passengers are also allowed to contribute ideas, so if there are places on this itinerary that you definitely want to visit, let us know and we will visit them, if possible!
Like Tobago, for example. This former pirate’s nest was also called the hidden island, because it remained hidden from the rest of the (western) world for so long. Even though people were already living on the island 7,000 years ago. The name means ‘tobacco’. Daniel Defoe situated the story of Robinson Crusoe on Tobago. Although this island is a paradise for nature lovers, tourism here is less developed than in other Caribbean islands. On the north side, you will find beautiful beaches with palm trees and bays where you can be the only boat to anchor. On the south side is one of the most beautiful diving and snorkelling areas in the whole Caribbean: Buccoo Reef. But first we sail to Scarborough, where we will clear customs. Before we sail on to Trinidad, we might take a look at the uninhabited islets on the eastern side of Tobago.
After another wonderful last evening on board, we will drop you off in Port of Spain in Trinidad on 10 December 2025 where you can continue your journey on your own.
