Ascension Regatta Weekend

Four days of wind, team spirit, and the authentic atmosphere of majestic tall ships await during the Ascension Regatta Weekend 2026! ⛵✨

During the long Ascension weekend, the Belle Amie sets sail from Flensburg for a special adventure on the water. Together with other large sailing ships, it sails across the Flensburg Fjord to Sønderborg in Denmark on Ascension Day—a perfect start to the regatta experience.

In the evening, the traditional Gaffel Market takes place in the harbor of Sønderborg, around Sønderborg Castle. Stroll around, enjoy an ice cream, listen to live music—and soak up the enchanting atmosphere of warm summer evenings on the water. On board the Belle Amie, crew and guests cook together, laugh on deck, and celebrate life amid the proud gaff-rigged ships.

🌊 Regatta from Fjord to Fjord

On Friday, the real sailing adventure begins: the Fjord Regatta takes the ships from the Sønderborg Fjord back to the Flensburg Fjord. Day guests are welcome to join—no experience is required, as the experienced crew of the Belle Amie provides all guidance.

“Hoist the main sail! Hoist the jib!” – and right away you’re working together as a team on the sails, fully immersed in the tall-ship atmosphere. Between Sønderborg and Flensburg, and later along the iconic “Schwiegermutter” spit all the way to Holnis, there are countless photo opportunities waiting.

🏴‍☠️ Rum Regatta – the legendary highlight on Saturday

After a lively Friday evening in Flensburg, Saturday brings the Rum Regatta. An iconic, fun-filled race where everyone competes for second place. The grand prize? A huge bottle of Johannsen Rhum, bottled exclusively for this maritime event. 🥃🔥

The goal: to claim the famous second place, following the motto:
“Better safe and second than broken and first!”

In the evening, Flensburg sets the scene for rum, singing, and good cheer. The night winds down with live music, harbor atmosphere, and North German charm.

🌅 Rum Sailing – the perfect finale

On Sunday, the weekend concludes with rum sailing on the Belle Amie. The morning might start with tea and rum, but above all with fun, conversations about maneuvers—and, of course, plenty of chatting and laughter. 🤍⚓

Four days full of adventure, friendship, and Baltic Sea wind—a experience that will linger long in your memory.

Going on board and hoisting the sails means experiencing the ultimate regatta feeling—perfect for anyone who loves sailing! 🌍⛵🎶

An overnight stay in advance from May 13 to 14, 2026, is possible by arrangement and for an additional fee.

Frequently asked questions

We still handle your bookings personally and therefore do not have an automatic booking system. This way, we can enable you to reserve individual places for a few days without any obligation. This allows you, for example, to arrange your holiday without someone stealing your place from under your nose. For this reason, we cannot keep track of the exact number of free places on a daily basis. However, we regularly check the availability of our sailing holidays. Therefore, you can generally assume that plenty of free places are still available on all trips that are not marked as ‘fully booked’ or ‘Last Minute’. Call us or use our booking form if you want to know the exact number of places available.

If you are travelling alone and have not booked a private cabin, you will be accommodated in a shared cabin. The shared cabins are usually assigned based on gender.

Exceptions:

  • On the Belle Amie and the Seatrips yachts, there are sometimes mixed-gender cabins as well.
  • There are no shared cabins on the Sir Robert. Are you travelling alone? Then you should book a single cabin.

Yes, vegetarians and allergies/intolerances can be catered for on most ships. On some ships, the menu can also be adapted for vegans. However, there is only one menu per day on the programme. Therefore, please let us know during your booking if you have any special dietary requirements.

In principle, all our trips are suitable for both experienced and novice sailors. The professional crew on board will teach you everything you need to know. In some cases (e.g. on Atlantic crossings) initial sailing experience may be an advantage/requirement. In this case, this will be clearly indicated in the cruise description.
