Mediterranean sailing adventure
Experience an unforgettable offshore sailing voyage across the Mediterranean aboard the traditional tall ship Florette. This eight-day crossing forms the second leg of her full journey from Malta to France, taking you from the Italian island of Sardinia to the French port of Sète. The voyage combines long days under sail with carefully chosen anchorages and occasional views of the passing coastline.
This voyage is ideal for those looking to build sea miles or seeking a true offshore sailing experience in the Mediterranean. It is a hands-on adventure where you actively take part in life on board and learn from an experienced crew who have called Florette their home for over twenty years.
From Olbia to Sète
The journey begins in Olbia, Sardinia. From here, Florette sets a northerly course, crossing the Tyrrhenian and Ligurian Seas. The offshore sailing days create a steady rhythm to life on board, punctuated by anchorages that offer glimpses of Mediterranean towns and island landscapes.
The weather and the sea dictate daily life, but you quickly become familiar with the rhythm of the ship. A typical day includes time at the helm, setting sails, helping with meal preparation, navigation briefings with the captain, and, of course, getting to know your fellow crew members.
These waters are known for their variable sailing conditions. Each day requires new decisions from the captain and crew to make the most of the wind. In the Tyrrhenian Sea, you can often expect steady winds and clear blue skies, but the sea is always unpredictable. Prepare for a range of conditions: changing seas, long days under sail, and a true offshore experience—perfect for adventurous sailors.
Arrival in France
Upon arrival in Sète, you can explore this historic port town on the Languedoc coast. Known as the “Venice of the Languedoc” for its network of canals and bridges, Sète has a unique charm. It’s the perfect place to find your sea legs again while wandering along lively quays and traditional markets. Your arrival coincides with preparations for the annual Escale à Sète festival, a major maritime event that fills the streets, harbors, and waterways with nautical energy.
Good to know
Sailing versus shore time: this voyage consists of long passages at sea, including night sailing, with limited time spent on shore.
Night watches: yes. The ship operates on a three-watch system, giving you the opportunity to take the helm under the stars during the night.
