Southern Denmark and the German coast
The journey begins in Rostock, a historic port city on the German Baltic coast, famous for its long maritime traditions. From Rostock, you sail towards southern Denmark and along the German coast, with a choice of several beautiful stopovers depending on the wind and weather conditions.
Nysted, a picturesque Danish port town on the island of Lolland, is a possible stop. It’s a quiet place with quaint streets and an idyllic atmosphere, plus very tasty Danish ice cream. Or perhaps sail to Klintholm on the island of Møn, famous for its impressive chalk cliffs and unspoilt nature. This area is a hiker’s paradise, with dramatic views over the Baltic Sea.
The journey can also take you through Guldborgsund or Grønsund, narrow straits connecting the Danish islands of Lolland, Falster and Møn. Sailing through these waters offers spectacular views of the picturesque nature and historic villages along the coasts. The calm waters and dramatic landscape make this region particularly attractive to sailors.
Stopovers in Germany may also be on the itinerary, for example Fehmarn, known for its beautiful beaches and picturesque countryside. Another possible stop in Germany is Kühlungsborn, a charming seaside resort with a rich maritime history and an ideal place to experience the atmosphere of the Baltic Sea.
Life on board
On the Albert Johannes, everything revolves around an authentic hands-on sailing experience, where teamwork and real sailing are central. Under the guidance of the captain and crew, you actively help on board—from hoisting sails to carrying out maneuvers, and those who wish can climb into the rigging. Thanks to clear instructions, everyone can take part, even without sailing experience.
Because you are part of the crew during the trip, meals also revolve around teamwork—in the form of a collaborative full board. Fellow travelers help with the preparations. In addition, there is a kitchen assistant on board to ensure everything in the galley runs smoothly.
During the sailing trips, meals are kept simple due to the limited facilities on board. In addition, it is unfortunately not possible to accommodate individual dietary requirements, such as vegetarian, vegan, or other specific diets.
