Join the Blue Clipper for an adventurous sailing holiday aboard a traditional tallship, from Monaco to Portimão, Portugal. This active sailing experience is perfect for anyone who wants to experience life on a traditionally rigged ship while covering many sea miles.

On this trip, you will develop a true love of sailing. The best way to feel completely at home on a ship is to actively contribute and feel like a valuable member of the crew. The crew will teach you the basics of seamanship, such as steering, hoisting sails, reefing and tying knots with conviction. The skills you gain will also be useful for modern yachts, but most importantly will make you feel completely at home on traditional ships and tallships with blocks and hoists.

This is a crossing where guests have the chance to be part of a watch system. However, this is not mandatory, as there is enough crew on board to provide the night sailing, which is necessary to cover the many miles from Monaco to Portugal.

Sail through the Strait of Gibraltar, along the southern coasts of France and Spain and the Balearic Islands, before ending in Portimao. There will be some port stops during the voyage, but the exact locations will only be determined once the skipper has a better idea of that week’s weather conditions.

During this trip, you will learn a new sailing language. By the end of the week, you will be familiar with terms like sheet, fender, anchor winch or ‘ falling off’, and anything that seems confusing the first time aboard a tallship will become self-evident. This adventure requires several full days at sea and possibly night sailing, depending on the weather. It is ideal for people who already have some experience aboard a boat or ship, but of course also for sea-mile collectors.

Tip: You can reach Monaco via Nice airport (France). There are direct flights from various European airports.

Frequently asked questions

We still handle your bookings personally and therefore do not have an automatic booking system. This way, we can enable you to reserve individual places for a few days without any obligation. This allows you, for example, to arrange your holiday without someone stealing your place from under your nose. For this reason, we cannot keep track of the exact number of free places on a daily basis. However, we regularly check the availability of our sailing holidays. Therefore, you can generally assume that plenty of free places are still available on all trips that are not marked as ‘fully booked’ or ‘Last Minute’. Call us or use our booking form if you want to know the exact number of places available.

If you are travelling alone and have not booked a private cabin, you will be accommodated in a shared cabin. Shared cabins are normally divided by gender. Only on the Belle Amie and Seatrips Yachts do they sometimes have mixed cabins.

Yes, vegetarians and allergies/intolerances can be catered for on most ships. However, there is only one menu per day on the programme. Therefore, please let us know during your booking if you have any special dietary requirements.

In principle, all our trips are suitable for both experienced and novice sailors. The professional crew on board will teach you everything you need to know. In some cases (e.g. on Atlantic crossings) initial sailing experience may be an advantage/requirement. In this case, this will be clearly indicated in the cruise description.
