From June 21 to 29, 2025, the Kieler Woche will take place in and around the Kieler Fjord!
No week is like this. For nine days, the Kiel Woche combines the world’s biggest sailing event with the largest summer festival in northern Europe. She offers cultural highlights and joyful outdoor festivals. And that all over the city.
The unique concept of the Kieler Woche began in 1882, when sailing was the sole focus. Since World War II, the aim of the modern Kiel Week has been to “improve understanding between peoples and contribute to peace and friendship”.
The windjammer parade is the maritime highlight of the Kieler Woche with around a hundred traditional sailing ships. Barges, brigs and schooners – usually led by the Gorch Fock – sail up the Kieler Fjord in parade formation.
You have the chance to board an original traditional sailing ship. The crew takes care of your physical well-being and you can enjoy the fantastic views of the fjord and the other traditional sailing ships in peace, just as many kings and tsars have done before you. Of course, if you want to lend a hand, you can also help hoist and lower the sails.
The trip takes place on the shark cutter Platessa from Esbjerg. The Platessa is rigged as a 2-mast gaff ketch and was launched in 1935. There will be a maximum of 25 guests on board.
