Escape the winter – sail under the sun
While it’s cold and gray at home, we board in the sunny south of Tenerife for an unforgettable sailing holiday along the enchanting Western Canary Islands. In the sheltered coastal areas, you’ll enjoy steady northeast trade winds and temperatures between 22 and 27 °C—ideal for both relaxed and adventurous ocean sailing. Between the islands, the wind accelerates due to the Venturi effect, creating spectacular island hopping over deep blue waters. Along the way, there’s a good chance of spotting dolphins or even pilot whales.
La Gomera – green, peaceful, and enchanting
Our first stop is the charming San Sebastián on La Gomera. Far from the crowds, you’ll find a green oasis here. We spend a full day exploring the island’s interior: a trip to Parque Nacional de Garajonay, one of the oldest forests in the world, lets you walk among magical laurel and heath trees. Along the way, we pause at a woodland hut with a wood stove, where a warm lunch awaits—pure relaxation in a fairytale-like setting.
Valle Gran Rey – sunset among red cliffs
The next day we sail to Valle Gran Rey, an authentic harbor at the foot of impressive red-hued cliffs. Narrow streets lined with cozy tapas bars lead to viewpoints over the ocean, where the sunset sets the sky ablaze. The small harbor exudes a relaxed atmosphere and still radiates the charm of its old hippie vibe.
El Hierro – the hidden gem
Next, an adventurous crossing awaits to El Hierro, an island off the beaten path. With favorable wind, this is a full day of ocean sailing at its best. The tranquil island and its modern marina provide the perfect base to explore cliffs, lush forests, and rugged coastlines. Highlights such as César Manrique’s Mirador de la Peña make this island unforgettable.
Return via La Gomera – wildlife and relaxation
On the return journey, we sail along the south coast of La Gomera, where we anchor or visit a picturesque harbor. Here, there’s another excellent opportunity to spot dolphins while enjoying the last rays of sun on deck. The trip ends back in Tenerife, where we conclude together with a cozy dinner at a local Spanish restaurant.
