From Kiel to Sail Brest – along the entire North Sea coast

Ready for a trip at sea? Come aboard the Iris, experience the fascination of sailing on the North Sea and feel the wind in your sails on a crossing from Kiel to Brest. This voyage is for true sailing enthusiasts and mileage collectors, because to get from Kiel to Brest, you have to cover more than 700 nautical miles under sail.

The journey begins in Kiel, a lively harbour on the Baltic Sea. The route then leads through the Kiel Canal. On this impressive canal cruise, you can relax and watch the impressive freight traffic on the world’s busiest waterway from up close.

After leaving the canal, the journey continues across the Elbe to the North Sea. Now the adventure really begins! The North Sea is characterised by changing wind and weather conditions. Everything is possible here, from storms and high waves to perfect sailing conditions and total calm. Which harbours to call at can therefore only be discussed and decided during the course of the trip.

On the North Sea, we first pass the German Bight with the beautiful East Frisian Islands. This is followed by the Netherlands with its islands of Schiermonnikoog, Ameland, Terschelling, Vlieland and Texel. These islands are known for their natural beauty, beaches and relaxed atmosphere. We will probably call at one or more of these islands on this trip. We will continue along the Dutch and Belgian coast, past bustling harbour cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Zeebrugge. Who knows, maybe the weather will give us time to make a short stopover here!

The journey along the French coast takes us past picturesque fishing villages, sun-drenched beaches and historic harbour towns. The Normandy coast impresses with its steep cliffs and picturesque bays, while Brittany fascinates with its wild beauty and Celtic culture. On the way to Brest, we also sail along Guernsey and Jersey, the Channel Islands between France and England, which are known for their breathtaking landscapes and mild climate. The destination of this long sea voyage is Brest, an important harbour on the French Atlantic coast, rich in maritime history and culture. From 12 – 17 July 2024, Sail Brest , an international maritime festival, will take place here with more than 1000 ships taking part. Don’t miss out on this spectacle and stay here for a few more days!

There will be plenty of time to explore the surrounding area, visit local sights and savour the regional cuisine if you are interested. Explore the charming harbour towns, breathe in the fresh sea air and enjoy the views of the surrounding coastal landscapes. The trip is perfect for solo travellers, couples and small groups who want to make new contacts and enjoy the sense of community on board. Share your enthusiasm for sailing with other guests, swap experiences and enjoy unforgettable moments in good company.

Together with your fellow sailors, you will prepare delicious meals, which you will eat in a convivial atmosphere and have the opportunity to reflect on your experiences. The Iris offers comfort and hospitality for its guests. Cosy cabins and lovingly designed communal areas invite you to relax.

Frequently asked questions

We still handle your bookings personally and therefore do not have an automatic booking system. This way, we can enable you to reserve individual places for a few days without any obligation. This allows you, for example, to arrange your holiday without someone stealing your place from under your nose. For this reason, we cannot keep track of the exact number of free places on a daily basis. However, we regularly check the availability of our sailing holidays. Therefore, you can generally assume that plenty of free places are still available on all trips that are not marked as ‘fully booked’ or ‘Last Minute’. Call us or use our booking form if you want to know the exact number of places available.

If you are travelling alone and have not booked a private cabin, you will be accommodated in a shared cabin. Shared cabins are normally divided by gender. Only on the Belle Amie and Seatrips Yachts do they sometimes have mixed cabins.

Yes, vegetarians and allergies/intolerances can be catered for on most ships. However, there is only one menu per day on the programme. Therefore, please let us know during your booking if you have any special dietary requirements.

In principle, all our trips are suitable for both experienced and novice sailors. The professional crew on board will teach you everything you need to know. In some cases (e.g. on Atlantic crossings) initial sailing experience may be an advantage/requirement. In this case, this will be clearly indicated in the cruise description.
