Denmark, a country of more than 444 islands, 368 of which are uninhabited, is a paradise for lovers of the sea and sailing. Even on the mainland, you are never more than 32 kilometres from the coast, which shows why the sea is so deeply rooted in Danish culture.

One of the best ways to explore these islands is aboard the traditional schooner Aron. This beautiful historic Danish sailing ship, managed by experienced skippers Gorm and Helene, offers an authentic sailing experience. Both skippers were born and raised on the Danish islands and therefore know the best, most hidden spots to take their guests to.

Your adventure begins in the charming town of Svendborg, located south of the island of Funen. This sailing area is known for its sheltered, calm seas and moderate winds, making it a perfect introduction to traditional sailing. On board the Aron, you will learn the tricks of the trade in a safe and supportive environment, while enjoying the breathtaking scenery. The low waves and minimal swell ensure that sailing between the islands rarely causes seasickness, allowing you to fully enjoy your time on the water.

During the trip, we let the wind determine which islands and towns we will visit. The possibilities are endless: from the almost Caribbean-looking beach of Lundeborg to Gorm’s home village of Troense, the fishing town of Bagenkop, the boating town of Marstal, the adventurous Ærøskøbing, or one of the idyllic small islands.

Perhaps we will stop at Skarø, famous for its world-famous ice cream, or Drejø, with its fascinating history. Perhaps we sail to Lyø, with its quaint village and mystical bellstone, or to Strynø, where you can visit the tasting centre. Perhaps we explore Avarnakø, with its many hills.

What all these towns have in common is their rich cultural history and cosy atmosphere. On the small islands, you will unwind and taste the rhythm of life as it was a few generations ago.

All sailing trips on the Aron are all about good sailing, pleasant company, and actively participating ( to the extent you can) in all daily activities on board.

Frequently asked questions

We still handle your bookings personally and therefore do not have an automatic booking system. This way, we can enable you to reserve individual places for a few days without any obligation. This allows you, for example, to arrange your holiday without someone stealing your place from under your nose. For this reason, we cannot keep track of the exact number of free places on a daily basis. However, we regularly check the availability of our sailing holidays. Therefore, you can generally assume that plenty of free places are still available on all trips that are not marked as ‘fully booked’ or ‘Last Minute’. Call us or use our booking form if you want to know the exact number of places available.

If you are travelling alone and have not booked a private cabin, you will be accommodated in a shared cabin. Shared cabins are normally divided by gender. Only on the Belle Amie and Seatrips Yachts do they sometimes have mixed cabins.

Yes, vegetarians and allergies/intolerances can be catered for on most ships. However, there is only one menu per day on the programme. Therefore, please let us know during your booking if you have any special dietary requirements.

In principle, all our trips are suitable for both experienced and novice sailors. The professional crew on board will teach you everything you need to know. In some cases (e.g. on Atlantic crossings) initial sailing experience may be an advantage/requirement. In this case, this will be clearly indicated in the cruise description.
