The trip starts in A Coruña, Spain, where everyone is warmly welcomed by the Twister’s crew. Once everyone is familiar with the ship and each other, we set sail. We set the sails and sail around Cape Finisterre. This rugged cape is typical of the rocky Galician coast. The cape was named Finisterre, or the end of the world, by the Romans because of its westerly location. For pilgrims, this place is the end of their camino. The place where they watch the sunset perform the ritual of burning their clothes. This makes rounding the infamous cape, past the 170-year-old famous lighthouse very special!
Any stopovers are weather-dependent. We might stop at the historic village of Muros. A walk through this town is like a journey through time, as the village has undergone few changes after its foundation in the Middle Ages. Or we visit the old port town of Vigo and the beautiful Islas Cíes at the mouth of the bay. Islas Ciés, also called the islands of the gods by the Romans, are known for their beautiful flora, crystal-clear waters and paradisiacal beaches.
We continue our way past Porto. In the picturesque old town full of colourful houses and narrow streets, culinary delights are of course in store. The bustling city is situated on the Douro River, over which the iconic iron bridges are built. On the north banks of the Douro are the Quintas, the wine estates where the grapes for the famous Port are grown.
The journey ends in the safe haven of Lisbon. According to some sources founded by Odysseus himself, on his journey home. A perfect place, then, to look back on a special stage together.
Fresh sea air makes you hungry, but so does the sight of local culinary specialities! Along the way, the ship’s chef serves delicious meals created from the fresh ingredients we bring on board.
