A very special sailing holiday, from the beautiful working port of Scalloway we sail the first day, weather permitting, to St Ninians Tombolo, an anchor bay with a beautiful sandy beach connection. The next day we will then cross to Fair Isle.
Fair Isle is a highlight where we stay a day for a walk along the spectacular north coast. The Bird Observatory has a relaxing little bar from where we have a nice view over the little harbour (with lots of seals) and where enthusiasts can learn more about all the special birds (such as e.g. the Puffin or Skua) that migrate or breed here. In the evening, we walk up the cliff from the harbour and can see hundreds of Puffins going ashore on their way to their nest. The lack of tourists allows us to approach them up to 2 metres, an unforgettable experience.
We then cross back to the Shetland Islands, to Grutness Voe, where we can take a nice walk to the cliff with great views over the Atlantic Ocean and Sumburg Head. Or to Jarlshof with prehistoric and Viking excavations. The final destination in the Shetland Islands depends on the wind, and we will end this sailing holiday in atmospheric Lerwick where we will dine out to conclude the sailing trip.
The above schedule depends on weather, wind and tide, we will deviate from it if necessary. Information on transfer options to the port of departure and from the port of arrival are available from us on request.
Category C: Shorter day distances and enough time for sightseeing with occasional extra trips.
