During the Kieler Woche, we offer you the opportunity to experience a day on an original, traditional Dutch sailing ship. The crew will take care of your physical well-being and you can enjoy the fantastic views over the fjord in peace and quiet, just as many kings and tsars have done before you. If you want to lend a hand while sailing, you can of course do so too.
On board the ELEGANT, you have the chance to take a short test sail on a traditional charter ship. This allows you to test your seaworthiness without having to book several days straight away.
The Elegant has plenty of seating on deck. If the weather is not playing along, you can make yourself comfortable below deck in the large, bright saloon with a freshly tapped beer or other drink. From here, you can also watch the action on the water through the large windows.
Children are also welcome on board and are of course allowed to help with the sailing or even take the helm for once. We also have a game box below deck and a small library on board.
Kieler Woche
No week is like this. For 9 days, the Kieler Woche combines the world’s biggest sailing event with Northern Europe’s biggest summer festival. That promises cultural highlights and fun parties throughout the city – all open air!
The maritime highlight is the Windjammer parade with around 100 traditional ships. Barges, brigs, and schooners then sail – usually with the Gorch Fock in front – out of Kiel’s fjord. During the Kieler Woche, however, a small parade takes place each time. We offer various day and evening tours for individuals and groups. Finally, the Kieler Woche is traditionally concluded on the last Sunday with a big fireworks display.
The concept for the Kieler Woche was conceived as early as 1882. Back then, however, the main focus was on sailing races. Since the end of the Second World War, the aim of the modern Kieler Woche was, and still is, “to improve communication between the world’s peoples and contribute to peace and friendship.”
The Kieler Woche will take place in and around the Kieler Fjord from 22 to 30 June 2024!
