From England to Belgium

A short but exciting sea voyage awaits you! Step aboard in Shoreham-by-Sea and sail across the English Channel to Ostend, Belgium, where the Morgenster proudly takes part in the maritime festival “Oostende voor Anker.” A grand celebration of tall ships, seafaring tradition, and salty tales.

This 3-day crossing combines active sailing, fresh sea air, and the thrill of entering the harbor under full sail, just in time for one of Europe’s most beloved maritime events.

Sailing across the Channel – The Classic Crossing.

As the English coast fades behind us, the Morgenster sets course eastward across the busy yet historic waters of the Channel. For centuries, this route has connected sailors, traders, and explorers—and now it’s your turn to experience it the traditional way.

As the sails catch the wind, you become part of a real crew: hoisting sails, taking the helm, and feeling the rhythm of an authentic tall ship in motion. Or, if you prefer, simply enjoy the voyage, watch the horizon shift, and sip your coffee quietly while seabirds circle above.

No experience is needed—just curiosity and the willingness to let the sea work its quiet magic.

Arrival at Oostende for Anchor.

After three days of sailing, the Morgenster glides into the harbor of Ostend, her masts proudly rising above the quay. And what a welcome! The Oostende voor Anker festival fills the city with tall ships, maritime music, and thousands of visitors celebrating the spirit of the sea.

You don’t just arrive as a visitor—you become part of the spectacle: as a crew member on one of the most beautiful square-rigged ships at sea. Explore the festival, meet fellow sailors, and soak in the atmosphere of this lively event that celebrates tradition, craftsmanship, and adventure.

Why join this voyage?

Because it’s the perfect short escape for anyone who loves sailing, history, and good company. The tall ship Morgenster offers both comfort and authenticity, with a crew that makes everyone feel welcome—whether it’s your first time on a tall ship or your fiftieth.

This 3-day crossing is an excellent opportunity to experience life at sea, learn a few seamanship skills, and take part in a maritime festival that celebrates everything the Morgenster stands for.

Your Role Aboard the Morgenster

Sailing on a square-rigged tall ship like the Morgenster is a unique experience — perfect for both seasoned sailors and curious newcomers alike.

Aboard the Morgenster, you’re not just a passenger — you’re truly part of the crew. From hoisting the sails to plotting the ship’s position at sea, you’ll become an active participant in life on board. The experienced crew will gladly guide you, offering the unique opportunity to learn and experience every aspect of traditional seamanship. Tasks are tailored to your interests and abilities, ensuring there’s a role for everyone.

Up for a challenge? You can even climb the masts! Conquer your fear of heights and enjoy the breathtaking view from the yards, with the proud realization that you’ve experienced one of the most thrilling parts of life at sea.

The ship sails day and night, divided into three watches. Experience the camaraderie of being part of a watch, where everyone plays an important role in keeping the ship running smoothly and safely.

Meals on Board – More Than Just Food

Each day, the ship’s bell signals the start of a shared mealtime. The ship’s cook prepares three tasty, nutritious meals daily, with an extra snack at 4:00 PM. During the night watches, warm toasties are served—simple but comforting treats that add to the camaraderie aboard.

At each stop ashore, a supply of fresh vegetables and fruit is taken on board. The freezers are stocked with quality meat, and who knows—we might even catch a fish along the way.

On board, food is more than nourishment—it’s connection. Around the table, stories are shared, friendships are formed, and you get the feeling that you’re part of something special.

Frequently asked questions

We still handle bookings personally and therefore do not have an automated booking system. This allows us to offer you the option to reserve individual spots without obligation for a few days. This way, for example, you can arrange your vacation without anyone snatching your spot right under your nose. For this reason, we are unable to keep track of the exact number of available spots on a daily basis. However, we regularly check the availability of our sailing holidays. Therefore, you can generally assume that there are still enough available spots on all trips that are not marked as “fully booked” or “Last Minute.” Call us or use our booking form if you want to know the exact number of available spots.

If you are travelling alone and have not booked a private cabin, you will be accommodated in a shared cabin. The shared cabins are usually assigned based on gender.

Exceptions:

  • On the Belle Amie and the Seatrips yachts, there are sometimes mixed-gender cabins as well.
  • On the Sir Robert, there are no shared cabins. Are you traveling alone? Then you must book a single cabin..

Yes, vegetarians and allergies/intolerances can be catered for on most ships. On some ships, the menu can also be adapted for vegans. However, there is only one menu per day on the programme. Therefore, please let us know during your booking if you have any special dietary requirements.

In principle, all our trips are suitable for both experienced and novice sailors. The professional crew on board will teach you everything you need to know. In some cases (e.g. on Atlantic crossings) initial sailing experience may be an advantage/requirement. In this case, this will be clearly indicated in the cruise description.
