From Lisbon, we sail down the Tagus past the iconic Torre de Belem, up the Atlantic to Cascais. A short leg that gives us time to prepare for the long crossing and enjoy the Portuguese atmosphere in the meantime. From there, we will start our crossing to Porto Santo, a trip of about 4 days non-stop on the Atlantic, depending on the wind.
We sail on a 3-watch system: 3 hours on, 6 hours off. This gives you enough rest and keeps you alert when your watch starts. Especially when it is colder (at night), it is easy to keep up.
Watching and sailing on the azure ocean swell, with beautiful sunsets, starry skies and dolphins along the way in fine weather and fair winds, makes it extra special. If the weather cooperates, we will have a day to stay in Porto Santo, to rest and stretch our legs. Porto Santo is desert-like and very different from green Madeira. The plan is also to take a nice hike to Madeira’s spectacular north-east cliffs, before ending this unforgettable sailing trip in the capital Funchal.
Daily distances vary, depending on weather and tide, between 28 and 475 miles. The above schedule depends on weather, wind and tide, and can be adjusted if necessary.
Category A/C: Crossing, this is a true sea sailing mile maker from one port to another. There will also be night sailing in a watch system. After the crossing, shorter day distances and time for shore excursions are also possible.
