In between, you glide slowly, almost silently under sail and enjoy the view of islands as they used to be – untouched nature, a small village, some agriculture and a harbour – no trace of big hotel castles! A trip on the IJsselmeer and Frisian canals is also possible: since 1932, the Afsluitdijk and its two locks have separated the mud flats from the IJsselmeer, protecting the many old Dutch harbour towns from the sometimes unpredictable tides. The former Zuiderzee has now become a true sailing paradise and you can easily sail far inland through numerous canals. Coming for a trip through Friesland and North Holland?
