Depending on the weather, we will sail from Lerwick on the first day to one of the northern Shetland islands. This way everyone can get used to the yacht and the sea and there is also time to see some of this special group of islands. We then have a distance of about 240 miles to go to the Norwegian coast. Under good weather conditions, about two days non-stop, but it could be longer or shorter.
We sail on a 3-watch system, 3 hours on and 6 hours off. That way, you still get enough rest and are alert when your watch starts. Especially when it is colder (at night), this makes it easy to keep watch.
Special on the crossings are the beautiful sunrises and moonrises/sets. With a bit of luck, we will see whales as well as dolphins and the most beautiful starry skies or a luminous sea (sea sparkle). A special combination of making miles, night sailing, more sail handling and a lot of steering. These sea sailing trips are somewhat well-planned, so there are also opportunities to avoid really bad weather or to visit a few nice ports along the way for variety and to recover.
The destination will be determined by the weather and the plan is to spend a day in port afterwards to recover and see some of the country. We will finish in the beautiful port of Ålesund, where we will eat out to conclude the sailing trip.
The daily distances are between 20 and 240 nautical miles this sailing holiday. The above schedule depends on weather, wind and tide, we will deviate from it if necessary. Information on transfer options to the departure and from the arrival port are available on request.
