The Ryvar has a fascinating history dating back to 1916, when she was built at the renowned Boot brothers’ shipyard in Leiderdorp, the Netherlands. Originally designed as a herring lugger for the North Sea, she was named De Mervede and was a loyal companion of fishermen off the coast of the Netherlands. For the first two years of her life, she operated exclusively under sail. Today, she is carefully maintained as a traditional sailing ship under the German flag to preserve her original splendour and keep the spirit of days gone by alive.
The Ryvar embodies the desire for adventure on the high seas and the romance of days gone by. With her 2 masts and a length of about 40 metres, she offers not only an imposing appearance, but also a cosy atmosphere on board. Everywhere are cosy spots to enjoy the tranquillity of the sea or to experience beautiful moments in the company of others.
As a fellow sailor, you will be actively involved in what happens on deck, whether you are experienced or not. The operation of the rigging is clearly structured so that everyone can lend a hand. The experienced crew will expertly assist you and guide you through the art of sailing a traditional ship.
For longer sailing trips, a total of 28 berths are available on the ship, divided into six cabins. All cabins are comfortably equipped with central heating and laundry facilities to ensure guests a pleasant stay, while the inviting saloon can accommodate up to 30 people at two large tables, perfect for communal meals and convivial gatherings during the voyage. In the well-equipped galley on board, you will find a professional five-burner gas cooker, two ovens and a spacious fridge and freezer, providing all the necessary facilities for preparing delicious meals at sea.
