Bree Sant

The Bree Sant is an impressive traditional sailing vessel with a classic, authentic silhouette measuring over 32 metres long and 6 metres wide. With a sailing area of 400 square metres, which can be extended to 700 square metres during races, this flat-bottomed ship offers an unforgettable sailing experience. Built in 1905 at shipyard Kalkman in Kralingse Veer under the smoke of Rotterdam, the ship started life as ‘Cathalina’. Later it was named ‘Adriana’, and today it is known as ‘Bree Sant’, named after an ancient sandbank in the Zuiderzee and Waddenzee on which the Afsluitdijk is now built.

Downstairs, you enter a beautifully furnished saloon and a spacious open kitchen, separated by a cosy bar. The mahogany panelling has a nautical atmosphere, making you feel like you’re on board a classic yacht. Here you will also find the cabins, sanitary facilities and storage areas. The entire ship is equipped with central heating for colder periods. The cabins are equipped with hot and cold running water, 220-volt sockets, clothes hooks and a locker. Beds are 2 metres long, and some beds even have extra legroom.

The sails are easy to operate, so you can sail even with a small crew. On deck, there is plenty of space and a large sitting area where everyone can find a spot. The wooden masts and round timbers, together with the many teak on deck, give the Bree Sant a special look.

Sailing trips

Single travellers, families and small groups who want to experience an active yet relaxing holiday on a traditional sailing ship have the opportunity to take part in the following sailing trips. Don’t worry, sailing experience is not necessary – anyone can join! The BreeSant is sailed by an experienced and qualified crew who will guide you the right way. Learn the basics of sailing on a flat-bottomed ship, climb into the jib net and set sails. If you want, it is also possible to take the helm yourself under supervision.

After arriving on board, you will be welcomed by the skipper and his crew and the main ‘rules of the ship’ will be explained to you. You will get to know your fellow sailors and together the trip/route will be discussed. On the first sailing day, after breakfast, you will get an extensive explanation about the ship and the sails. Then the sails are hoisted and we set sail for the first port of destination.
Translated with DeepL.com (free version) The adventure begins!

Each day we sail for an average of 5-8 hours. At the end of the day, we sail into a cosy harbour or fall dry on a sandbank. Of course, besides sailing, there is always plenty of time to get to know the surroundings. The route is never fixed in advance, but depends on weather and wind. Relaxing days with sun and swimming are just as possible as days with high winds and demanding sailing – it’s all in there.
