The traditional schooner Aron, built in 1906, offers sustainable sailing holidays in Denmark, where you can immerse yourself in life as it was some 115 years ago. The ship, built of solid oak, has excellent sailing characteristics, typical of the shipbuilder Lars Jensen Bager of Bager’s shipyard in Marstal.
Guests get the chance to actively participate in all aspects of sailing on this beautiful wooden ship. The ship is managed and sailed by Danish sailing couple Gorm and Helene, from the Danish port town of Svendborg, who enjoy sharing their passion for sailing and the history of the region with their guests. Gorm is usually at the helm, while Helene is on deck to teach guests the ropes of sailing in a relaxed manner. Actively participating on board is the best part of the experience. From hoisting sails to navigation and even preparing meals, everything is done as a team.
The Aron spends summers exploring the Danish archipelago of South Funen and visits to several other Danish, German and Swedish port cities. This ship is perfect for those looking for a relaxed, traditional sailing holiday, with the opportunity to get involved in sailing under the guidance of a professional crew. Age or experience does not matter; a good sense of humour and a desire for adventure are the only requirements!
Sailing with the Aron is not just about the destination, but about the journey itself. Besides sailing, you can enjoy delicious home-cooked meals on board, prepared with local ingredients. Helene, who has extensive experience in cooking on ships, creates a menu ranging from traditional Danish dishes to international flavours, inspired by her many travels. She prioritises ecology, sustainability and the use of local products on board. She can also cater for vegetarians, but unfortunately it is not possible to cater for vegans and people with allergies on board.
The ship offers comfortable berths for up to 12 guests, divided into four double cabins and one triple cabin. Each cabin is equipped with its own sink, towels, bedding and USB charging points. There is a shower on board, but often the facilities ashore are so good that it is worth using them.
