The tjalk (old Dutch sailing barge) Aagtje is a seaworthy sailing ship built in 1902 by the widow Aagtje Klugkist for her 7 sons. The ship carried cargo, mainly flower bulbs, stones and cattle until 1942 and was rebuilt and restored for tourism in 1981. Since then, the Aagtje has been a sailing passenger ship for 18 people on the Wadden Sea and IJsselmeer.
Over the years, the ship has been adapted to modern requirements of comfort and safety and, with great attention to detail, retained its original nautical character. In the winter of 2011, the entire interior was renewed in partnership with a shipyard. On and below deck, the ship is spacious and comfortably furnished in maritime style You will stay in well-kept double cabins. There is a sun deck that can be covered, a professional galley, sanitary facilities, two saloons, a piano and many small extras….
Susanne Willie and Diederik Sonneveld, the owners and skippers of the Aagtje, are an experienced team and have been sailing with various groups on the Dutch Wadden Sea for years. They have extensive experience with young people, school classes and special groups, such as cancer patients or children with learning problems, as well as the disabled.
If you want to spend a comfortable weekend, go active sailing or just enjoy it with your family… no problem, the crew is flexible and adapts to the group and the trip.
The route is always planned together with the guests and under professional guidance you will learn how to handle the ship. It is also possible to take the wheel yourself. Teamwork is important on board, whether in the kitchen or on deck…everyone pulls a rope and everyone finds their place on board. Anything is possible, nothing is imposed!
