Bike-sailing holidays on a sailing ship are something very special. Feel the freedom, the salty wind in your hair and on your face! It’s a bit like explorers of old times must have felt, but with all the conveniences of today. Aboard one of the most comfortable sailing ships, Leafde fan Fryslân, Mare fan Fryslân or ‘t Wapen fan Fryslân, you will experience pure nature while enjoying water, weather and wind on the vast IJsselmeer and Waddenzee.
On and adjacent to the Wadden Sea are tidal channels, seagrass meadows, mussel beds, sandbanks, mud flats, salt marshes, beaches and dunes. This is the habitat of marine mammals, such as seals and porpoises, and the breeding and wintering grounds for millions of birds. The area is one of the last remaining large-scale low-water ecosystems where natural processes continue to function. Besides the Wadden Sea, you will also visit the IJsselmeer and the beautiful coast with many fishing villages and old trading ports.
Wapen fan Fryslân
The ‘t Wapen fan Fryslân is the largest two-masted schooner on Dutch waters. Take a seat in the spacious wheelhouse and order your drink at the stylish bar to enjoy the view through the large windows. Of course, the view is even better when you are outside: unwind on the aft deck by the outdoor bar, in the Jacuzzi on the middle deck or on one of the deck chairs on the sun deck. The main salon also doubles as a restaurant and this will be the place where you will feast on delicious food. Sleeping will not be a problem in the beautifully spacious cabins. Below decks are 12 double cabins with the possibility of a 3rd bunk bed in each cabin, all with private bathrooms.
Mare fan Fryslân
The Mare fan Fryslân is a beautiful, almost extravagant, three-masted schooner that has sailed Dutch waters as a passenger ship since 2007. On the lower deck is a saloon with wooden panelling that is used as a restaurant. Also below deck, there are 12 comfortable double cabins, 1 junior suite and a single cabin with bunk beds; all with private bathrooms. Next to the salon on the upper deck, is the wheelhouse with a bar and large windows. The wooden deck with an outdoor bar and a jacuzzi make this ship even more perfect for epicureans.
Leafde fan Fryslân
The imposing four-masted schooner, Leafde fan Fryslân, made her maiden voyage in spring 2018. The interior of this recently restyled ship can best be described as ‘refined’. On the lower deck, there are 12 well-equipped double cabins, 1 smaller double cabin and 1 junior suite with twin beds and 2 single cabins. A third (bunk) bed can be added in 2 double cabins, making it ideal for a family. On the upper deck, there are 4 beautiful suites with a hotel bed, a double sliding glass door and a small private balcony. Full meals are served in the restaurant and the ship’s bar is well stocked, so the lounge is the place to stay after a day on the bike. Or on deck, where you can burn some extra calories by helping hoist the sails.
