Cooking for a large group yourself? How do we do that?

Don’t worry – with a little help, it’ll all work out. Good preparation is already half the battle!

On all ships, a fully equipped kitchen is available for meal preparation. It has proven effective to form small cooking groups that take turns cooking and washing dishes for the entire group. This naturally contributes greatly to getting to know each other and team building. On some ships, as well as during our co-sailing trips, it is also possible to book a trip with full catering or with assistance in catering. Feel free to ask about the possibilities.

Please keep in mind that a ship often tilts while sailing. This incline and potential waves can make cooking more difficult. Therefore, it is recommended to prepare the main meal in the evening, when the ship is at rest.

For lunch, you can make sandwiches, wraps, or rolls, prepare salads, put together a charcuterie or cheese platter, offer raw vegetables, or eat the leftovers from the previous evening’s dinner. A soup is also always handy, as you can prepare it in advance. Be sure to have some vitamins – it’s nice to have fruit ready, and a bowl of cookies or sweets is always great for the group atmosphere.

Examples of group-friendly main dishes:

  • Spaghetti Bolognese
  • Chicken curry
  • Vegetable casserole (e.g., Moussaka)
  • Mashed potatoes with vegetables or sausages
  • Chili con/sin carne
  • Goulash
  • barbecue

Pizzas, fries, or fish sticks are not suitable for preparation on a ship due to the limited oven capacity.
